So, you’ve planned a photoshoot in Crete, chosen a location and now you’re choosing your look.
Whether it's on the beach, in an olive grove, or in a charming old town, the right preparation will help you look and feel your best. Here I have prepared for you some tips to ensure stunning resalts.
- Outfit & Shoes
Beach Photoshoot: Flowy dresses (light fabrics create beautiful movement in photos), light-colored linen shirts & shorts, and soft pastel tones work beautifully. Avoid heavy patterns or neon colors. Barefoot is ideal, but if you prefer shoes, opt for stylish sandals or espadrilles. If you want a photo shoot in a swimsuit – choose elegant and timeless designs (avoid beige, neon colors and prints). The swimsuit goes well with a beach cover-up and a loose, solid colored shirt.
Olive Grove Photoshoot: Earthy tones (beige, olive green, brown) blend well with nature. Long skirts, maxi dresses, or linen outfits create a dreamy look. Flat sandals or ankle boots work well. Shirts and trousers made from natural fabrics are ideal for men.
Old Town Photoshoot: Elegant dresses, stylish tops fit the setting. Bright colors like red, deep blue, or mustard add a pop of contrast. Comfortable yet stylish shoes (ballet flats, sandals, or low heels) are best for cobblestone streets.
Also, classic white, gray and black will suit all locations. Clothes of these colors can be perfectly complemented with accessories such as a scarf, bracelets, beads, sunglasses, fresh flowers, etc.
- Hair & Makeup
A natural, polished look is perfect for an outdoor photoshoot.
Makeup: Go for a fresh, glowing complexion. Avoid heavy foundation; instead, use a light BB cream. Waterproof mascara and soft, neutral lipstick or gloss are great choices, especially for the beach.
Hair: Loose waves, soft curls, or a romantic updo work well (but in windy weather loose hair will create difficulties). Avoid heavy hairspray—natural movement adds to the charm. A stylish hat or a floral hair accessory can enhance the look.
- Manicure & Pedicure
Neutral, pastel, or classic shades like nude, white, or soft pink look timeless. Avoid neon or dark colors unless they match your outfit.
- Props & Accessories
Minimalist pieces work best. Delicate earrings, a simple bracelet, or a meaningful pendant can add a nice touch without overpowering the photo.
Boho jewelry (shell necklaces, bracelets, anklets) – adds a natural and beachy feel.
Sun hats & sunglasses – perfect for a chic, summery vibe and sun protection.
Wicker hat or straw bag – a simple yet beautiful touch.
Seashells & starfish – authentic beach elements for close-up details.
Beach blanket or throw – a stylish way to sit or lie on the sand.
Picnic basket & props – Create a dreamy picnic setup for romantic or family shots.
Fresh flowers, flower crowns – a bohemian touch for a fairy-tale look.
- What to bring
A small bag with essentials: hairbrush, lipstick or gloss, blotting paper, and a small mirror for touch-ups.
A bottle of water to stay hydrated, especially in the heat.
A light shawl or scarf to protect yourself from the wind or sun.
By following these tips, you'll feel confident and comfortable, ensuring your photos capture your best self in Crete’s stunning landscapes!
